Literacy in 1st Grade
An enormous amount of reading growth occurs over the course of first grade, and we spend a great deal of our day making sure that every student is achieving that growth. Reading takes many forms throughout the day and includes: read-alouds, reading to self, reading to friends, listening to reading, book groups, shared reading, and phonics groups.
With so much reading taking place at school you may think that reading at home isn't important, but this is far from the case! Children need a great deal of exposure to a wide variety of text and we hope that parents spend time at home reading with their children as well.
